Geek Week is an opportunity to come together at every level to showcase our culture of collaboration and innovation: grassroots, academic and institutional. Geek Week aims to raise the profile of Waterloo Region as a premier destination for visitors.

From hackers and makers to movers and shakers, Geek Week invites the world to Waterloo Region to find out what’s new and what’s next. Visitors can sample the ingredients of Waterloo’s world-class innovation community through a diverse array of events

TextNow Summer Games

Come show us your game face at TextNow's first Summer Games, an evening of games, drinks, food, socializing and hanging out with one of Waterloo's best-kept secrets. Meet and chat with Seán McCabe, Chief Technical Officer at TextNow, with over 23 years of experience scaling fast growth technology driven organizations. Ladies Learning Code: Data Visualization for Beginners

In a world where there is more data than most of us really know what to do with, how do we go about displaying facts outside of a boring pie chart or common graph? Ever hear of the term "data visualization"? Data visualization not only helps us to compare and contrast information, but it also helps us understand common patterns, perceive certain outcomes, and aid in future decisions. Whether you’re a part of a marketing team, or just someone who needs a good infographic for a blog post, we’ll teach you how to manage collected data, and how to make it look fantastic.

K∩W exists to celebrate mathematics, computer science, programming languages, and intersectional activities like data science. We encourage all to join us in this celebration. However, a background in undergraduate mathematics and computer science is recommend.

Hack the North

Hack the North is Canada’s biggest hackathon. 1,000 students from around the world come together at the University of Waterloo to experiment, connect and create in 36 hours.

With Matt Connell, owner of Northwood Studios. Do you have a great story to tell? Learn how to capture that story on your phone, your computer or digital device to upload it for the world to hear. This session will provide hands-on experience with the ins and outs of the technology to record your podcast and edit it like the pros.

Geeking Out on Small Biz

In celebration of this year’s Geek Week the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre is getting together Waterloo Region’s most passionate entrepreneurs to “geek out” over their love of small business. The evening will inspire you through stories of perseverance, innovation, and passion. Hear from local entrepreneurs about what gets them fired up, how they started, the trials and tribulations they face, and what makes them successful. You’ll leave feeling determined to move towards your entrepreneurial goals and “geek out” on your own small biz.

National Learn to Code Day 2017

On September 23rd, 2017, Ladies Learning Code is hosting its fifth annual National Learn to Code Day -- the first and only event of its kind in Canada. On that day, over 1,500 Canadians will gather together in over 25 communities to challenge themselves to learn a new skill: Using Data to Solve Problems: An Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Beginners In partnership with Accenture, we'll build on our mission of teaching Canadians 21st century digital skills and encourage them to use Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to make meaning of data.
